Kia ora! My name is Meri Haami and I'm a Kaupapa Māori researcher based in Ngāmotu (New Plymouth), Aotearoa (New Zealand). I connect to the ancestral lands and waters across Whanganui, the central plateau and to Taranaki of Te Ika-a-Māui (the North Island). Here's my bio:
Dr Meri Haami (she/her) works in a variety of interdisciplinary Kaupapa Māori research with her communities, which includes waiata (songs), health, the environment, oral histories, ecomusicology, ethnomusicology, racism, and intergenerational trauma healing. Meri was awarded the Health Research Council (HRC) of New Zealand Emerging Researcher First Grant for the project called, He Whiringa Māramatanga: Kaupapa Māori music and healing. Meri was awarded a Short-Term Fellowship at the Institute of Sacred Music with Yale University. Meri works as a Kairangahau for a Kaupapa Māori development and liberation organisation called, Tū Tama Wāhine o Taranaki.

This blog is a dedication to Kaupapa Māori theory and praxis, the inner workings of theorising to writing and a place to share my thoughts. This blog was a way to help with the creative processes of writing and reading.
